Project Aria Hotel is an original TRPG-inspired project cinematic. (the project name has no relationship with the actual Aira Hotel in real life)
It was my first UE5 project (originally built in UE4 then brought into UE5) started in
Jon Arellano (https://www.artstation.com/jonarellano)
's Environment Creation class, which was also my second Unreal Project.
(Textures were done in Forrest Stephen's Texture and Shading for Games Forrest Stephan. Also great thanks to both Forrest and David https://www.artstation.com/davidsolson
for giving me insights and enlightenment on real-time lighting!)
It was my first attempt at creating a such large-scale interior environment based on my original idea.
The main goal was to use lighting to convey and create a unique hotel design "you've never seen".
At the concept stage, I spent a lot of time to decide the best design that can blend both art deco vintage style and modern feelings into the interior design itself. Purple, black, and gold were chosen to be the main color palette for this environment. And I always adore seeing those renovated interiors that were modified from old banks. Therefore, I decided there should be a bank safety vault behind the reception.
Fun fact, before this piece was created, I was halfway through writing the script for the original TRPG. And shortly afterward, the movie Army of the Dead was released. Some ideas from my script overlapped with the movie coincidently, but the movie also gave me a lot of inspiration for creating this piece!
